Jared Leto engaged the audience on the second day of Fast Company's European Innovation Festival “The Dawn of Superintelligence” at the Gucci Hub in Milan. The Award-winning actor, musician and investor of tech start-ups spoke with Fast Company editor-in-chief Stephanie Mehta about the types of tech companies he likes to be part of. “Investing in technology has really been a way for me to challenge myself and grow... I’m very curious and I love being the dumbest person in the... room,” he said, also calling out his own look for the event—a pair of orange Gucci pants and Screener sneakers. Before Jared Leto, scientist Riccardo Sabatini and neuroscientist Moran Chef spoke about the intersection of technology and the human body, using bionics and brain chips. Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri discussed how the House achieved success amongst Generation Z and Millennials through a mix of technology and creativity. Other speakers included filmmaker Blitz Bazawule, Jessica Brillhart, founder of independent mixed reality XR studio Vrai Pictures, and Dustin Yellin. founder and director of Pioneer Works. Closing the day, the question ‘Can machines save our planet?’ was discussed between filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, adventurer and environmentalist David de Rothschild and Africa Flores-Anderson, a scientist who works on a joint initiative between NASA and the United States Agency for International Development. “We live on Earth, we think we’ve conquered it, we think we’ve understood it, we think we’re the superior species.
