Nick Waplington shares with the Gucci Community exclusive unpublished works
Nick Waplington shares with the Gucci Community exclusive unpublished works and a message of hope and well-being nurtured through creativity: “Like all of you (I hope), I am sheltering in place—but also trying to think beyond the immediate circumstances. For me, art is a way to imagine other, better worlds (past and future). With that in mind, I’m sharing some unpublished works that in different ways look beyond where we are now.”
Featured in the first and second image, is un...seen work from Nick Waplington’s ‘Living Room’—a photo series made in 1980s—and ‘Hackney Riviera’ shot in a secret swimming spot in east London during the summer of 2018. Both works show communities finding joy and togetherness against the backdrop of controversial political circumstances. The third image features a triptych of paintings Nick Waplington is working on from his New York studio. The work doesn’t have a title yet but the artist wanted to share what he is currently working on that doesn’t require travel to locations. The last image was captured in summer 2019 and features joggers on Hackney marshes. The photo is from Nick’s forthcoming book ‘Anaglypta’ that
spans 40 years of his photography and will be published in summer 2020 by Jesus Blue Books.
The Gucci Community stands behind aiding those most vulnerable in this crisis, join by donating now to the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund in support of the World Health Organization, and locally with Intesa Sanpaolo’s For Funding campaign which supports the Italian Civil Protection Department.
