Caryatid: A sculpted female figure serving as an architectural support, taking the place of a column. These sculptures embodying female forms that support the architecture of ancient temples and decorate certain Parisian edifices, draped in tunics with pure lines, have always shouldered the weight of the world.
These caryatids, filmed poetically by director Agnès Varda in the streets of Paris for her documentary 'Les Dites Cariatides,' inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri for her Haute Couture Autumn-Winter 2019-2020 show, to be unveiled on Monday July 1st.
