WHAT'S THE TEAM READING THIS SUMMER?

WHAT'S THE TEAM READING THIS SUMMER? - Allison / "Daisy Jones & The Six" by Taylor Jenkins Reid Two of my greatest passions in life – books and classic rock. Taylor Jenkins Reid combines both perfectly. Daisy Jones and The Six reads like you’re watching a behind-the-music style documentary. Despite only simple description offered of each character, I find myself easily visualising everyone between imaginary jump cuts, amused by the character quirks shown through the changes i...n language and informal narrative style. It’s so easy to just fall into the story unfolding between each anecdote and perspective. A great read while sprawled out in the sun or under the aircon. In Reid's own words, “Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.” We follow the story of protagonist Daisy Jones in retrospect as everyone involved reminiscences about their life and times together and apart. Daisy Jones was the lonely beauty and professional groupie, full of untapped but undeniable potential and talent, on the famed Sunset Strip of the late 60s. At the same time she is signed to a recording contract, The Six are making a name for themselves along the East Coast of the USA. The two acts are combined during the heights of the sex, drugs and rock and roll life of the 70s. But more than that, it follows the faults and emotional trials faced by anyone in that life, the truly human moments you wouldn’t normally think about when listening to Bowie or The Rolling Stones but were likely the inspiration behind them. The raw moments behind the artistic ones as told by those that experienced it. 展开
